OVERVIEW
In New York, at the end of the nineteenth century, a broker, Clarence Day (William Powell), wants to lead his family consisting of his wife Vinnie (Irene Dunne) and their four boys with the same severity and effectiveness as he runs his business at his office. Being a loving father, Clarence Day finally understands that the one who is pulling the strings in the family is Vinnie and that he can not successfully oppose her attempts to make him be baptized in the Christian religion. Vinnie is about to fall victim to drugs, marketed by two of her sons. The eldest son, Clarence Jr., is in love with beautiful Mary Skinner (Elizabeth Taylor) who is invited by the family's housekeeper Cora Cartwright (Zasu Pitts), Vinnie's cousin.
