On June 12, 1963 - "Cleopatra" (the most expensive film ever made at the time), starring Elizabeth Taylor, premieres in NYC.
It was the most talked about movie ever made, generating hundreds of news head lines, front pages, magazine covers and tons of articles, reviews. No other film before or after "Cleopatra" had such a great impact in the world wide media. It also had a huge cultural impact in view of the sexual revolution of the 1960's.
Cleopatra was the number one box office movie of 1963 and made Taylor the highest paid actress in the world.
